Dredge renaming and christening ceremonies honor the service men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces and provide an opportunity to recognize the Encore team's commitment and hard work.
In the days of ancient mythology, it was widely believed that a Roman king of the sea, Neptune, and a Greek ruler of the sea, Poseidon, lived in palaces. These gods of the sea would assure safe passage over the Seven Seas to all sailors who followed their doctrine and respected their protocols.
Neptune and Poseidon are said to maintain a “Ledger of the Deep” that records the name of every seagoing vessel by name. Changing the name of a boat is said to be disrespectful to the sea gods. According to legend, boaters that fail to undergo a proper boat name christening ceremony will be faced with the wrath of Neptune or Poseidon.
Encore has chosen to name its vessels after U.S. Naval Aircraft Carriers as a tribute to military service members. These ceremonies also provide an opportunity for team building and celebrating the crew's achievements.

Midway
The newly christened vessel "Midway" was acquired to expand Encore's dredging capabilities in April 2024. This well-established vessel was built in 1987 and has operated until recently as the "Iowa." It is a powerful 242-foot, 24" Cutter suction dredge with an underwater pump. It was welcomed into the Encore fleet on June 26, 2024, with a full renaming and christening ceremony on the shores of Lake McKellar in Memphis, Tennessee. We welcome the Midway and its seasoned crew into the Encore Dredging Partners family.
